BLU Medic Medipack

Description

My BLU Medic medipack. Still needs a tank valve and touchup but is 98% done. :)

About the construction:

Made out of foam-core, hot melt glue, and gorilla glue, with soda can transformers and bottle on the side. I used 1/4 foam-core in one continuous piece (V-shaped notches cut in the foam inside to bend it) for the body and gray runners.

The bottom insert and top lid (which comes off, I can put things in it!) are 1/2 inch foam core. There is also an additional 1/2 piece gorilla glued inside where the straps go through, so it is strong. Trust me this went through checked plane baggage and running around, it's sturdy.

The electrical transformers are Sunkist cans with foam-core rings glued on. They were carefully cut on a small bandsaw. The side vent is also foam core with some pink foam for the circle bit, all painted over with acrylics.

The tank is a very thin / light / was already flat bottomed (spring water) bottle from Trader Joe's. It connects to the pack with a solid chunk of 5 layered pieces of foam-core, that I gorilla glued together (clamped) then cut out on a band-saw.

It press fits like a square peg into a hole into the side of the pack (inside the pack it's reinforced with some 1/2 foam-core). You can take the extinguisher on and off for transport. It just holds in place by tension. The bottle was cut in half and glued into cut grooves, so it appears to be going THROUGH The solid 'block' of foam-core. This is strong, and keeps the empty thin bottle from denting IN.

I mod-podged the exposed cut edges of the foam-core on the runners and lid (ONLY the exposed foam) so they could be spray painted gray. Spray paint foam = MELT, you must seal foam first. Also evem sealed, you must spray in light coats, and for pink foam even sealed you can't use metallic silver spray paint it EATS IT. Just use quality silver acrylics it looks just as good.

The part where the hose connects on the bottom is a small plastic pipe connector, I had to drill 4 little holes into it to put a wire X-brace through so it can't just pull out the hole I cut in the 1/2 inch foamcore. It also spreads the stress out. The medigun hose press fits into it and can come out any time you want. The bigger ring around the pipe connector is pink foam painted black.
